Firm Profile

Ute Banse, Principal of Ute Design, is a native of Germany and has been an Atlanta resident since 1993. She has a unique variety of experiences in the field of urban design and planning, affordable housing, residential architecture, historic preservation and interior design.
Many of the firm's projects are located in Historic Districts and Ute Design has extensive experience working with local ordinances and guiding a project through the certification process. We find working with historic structures and sensitively adapting them to today's needs a highly rewarding experience.
All of our designs are driven by the desire to fulfill the client's vision and create or improve a home in a thoughtful and sustainable manner. We value good craftsmanship, use of durable and sustainable materials and attention to detail, and we are dedicated to energy efficient design wherever possible. Ute Design is increasingly collaborating with Bizot Architects to work on larger residential and commercial projects.
Ute Banse received a degree in urban design/architecture from the Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany and a master's degree in interior design from Georgia State University. Prior to founding her own company, Ute was a urban designer with the City of Berlin, Germany. She came to Atlanta to intern with the Atlanta Urban Design Commission and later worked with the Historic District Development Corporation in Atlanta. She lives with her husband Rick Bizot and their two sons in Inman Park. When not working, Ute loves to spend time with her family, reading, gardening and traveling.
For her contributions to the revitalization efforts in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic District, Ute Banse received the Jenny D. Thurston Memorial Award by the Atlanta Urban Design Commission in 2000.
